Balvatika is a preschool initiative funded by the Cipla Foundation for underprivileged children both in the younger (2-5 years) and elder (6-14 years) age groups. The purpose of Balvatika is to nurture overall child development i.e., psychological, biological, and emotional through the creation of educational opportunities for them. It is a Cipla Foundation socially responsible legacy through initiatives in health, skill development, education, and environmental sustainability, and disaster response. In Balvatika, learning is achieved through the activity-based “Play-way method”, where through purposeful quality play experience, children build critical basic skills for cognitive development and academic achievement. Most of the children in the slum’s areas are engaged in household activities looking after their younger siblings or any other families’ responsibilities. Through the Balvatika initiative, we encourage these children to step out of their homes and surroundings and learn among different people, which include their peers and teachers.
